Storm Mountain Flagstone for Patios and Walkways

Storm Mountain is an irregular grey flagstone with natural color movement and a subtle silver-flake shimmer. Its cool tones suit patios, walkways, garden paths, stepping-stone areas, and other outdoor spaces. Individual shapes and shades vary, but the overall grey color profile and shimmering detail are characteristic of this stone.

Storm Mountain flagstone thickness and coverage

We stock the regular, non-washed 2″ minus patio stone. Pieces are generally about 1″–2″ thick, with natural variation in shape and face size. A full pallet weighs approximately 2,000 lb (1 ton).

Based on our experience with this material, plan on roughly 100–120 square feet per one-ton pallet for a typical layout. Coverage is an estimate, not a guaranteed yield. It changes with stone thickness, the pieces selected, joint width, and how closely you fit the stones. A layout with tight joints may use more stone than widely spaced stepping stones. Buying Storm Mountain flagstone

A full one-ton pallet costs $435 and is available for pickup or delivery through Rock N Yard’s Landscape Center. If you only need a few pieces, you can select stones from an opened pallet at our yard. We weigh your selections and sell them for $0.28 per pound; individual-piece purchases are pickup only. Please check your vehicle’s payload capacity before picking up a large quantity.

Preparing a base for natural flagstone

Patios and walkways generally need suitable site preparation, a sub-base, and a leveling layer. Because natural flagstone varies in thickness, some pieces need more material beneath them to create an even finished surface. For our installation estimates, we generally allow about 20–25% more leveling-base material than we would for a uniform-thickness product. The appropriate base and total depth depend on the site and how the finished area will be used.

Pickup, delivery, and installation

Rock N Yard’s Landscape Center handles pallet pickup, pallet delivery, and pickup-only purchases by the pound. Our separate Landscape Services team can complete a full flagstone installation or install stone in an area you have prepared, provided the preparation is suitable. Delivery trucks stay on concrete or asphalt; we cannot drive them onto lawns or other yard surfaces.
