Old West Flagstone for Patios and Walkways

Old West flagstone is a natural quartzite with a varied mix of charcoal and medium grey, rusty brown, sandy tan, and lighter grey or cream. Some pieces lean cool and others warm, giving a finished patio or walkway an earthy, layered look. The irregular shapes and natural color variation make each installation distinct. The photos on this page show the Old West stone we stock; individual pallets and pieces will vary.

Uses for Old West Flagstone

This 1–2″ flagstone works well for outdoor patios, garden paths, walkways, stepping-stone areas, landings, and spaces around fire pits. One-Ton Pallets, Coverage, and Pickup

Old West flagstone is sold in one-ton pallets (2,000 lb). With normal gaps between stones, plan on approximately 100–120 square feet of coverage per pallet. Actual coverage depends on the thickness and shapes of the pieces, the size of the gaps, and how the stones are laid out. Pallets are available for pickup or delivery throughout the Salt Lake Valley. If you only need a few pieces, you can select them from an opened pallet for $0.30 per pound; individual pieces are available for pickup only.

Planning Your Installation

Most flagstone patios and walkways need a suitable sub-base and leveling base. The right preparation depends on the site and the intended use, so ask us if you are unsure what to use. Because irregular flagstone does not sit perfectly level, our installation crews typically allow an additional 20–25% of leveling-base material when planning these projects. That is a planning allowance, not a fixed amount every DIY project will require.
