Platinum Rose Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus

Platinum Rose Pathway Chat is a dark gray, compactable landscape material with subtle purple-gray and occasional rosy mineral tones. Its deeper coloring creates a clean, distinctive surface for pathways, patios and outdoor gathering areas while providing a darker alternative to our other gray pathway chat options.

This is a 3/8″ minus material, meaning it contains crushed rock measuring approximately 3/8″ and smaller, including the fine particles needed for compaction. When properly placed, lightly moistened and mechanically compacted, these different particle sizes bind together to form a firmer and more comfortable walking surface than clean, loose gravel.

Our Darker Gray Pathway Chat

Platinum Rose is our darker gray Pathway Chat option. Its base color is a deep gray with a subtle purple-gray hue that may appear slightly rosy under certain lighting conditions. This rich coloring pairs well with light-colored concrete, pale flagstone, green plants and contrasting decorative rock.

Customers looking for a somewhat lighter gray surface with blue-gray coloring and variable red and tan accents may prefer our Twilight Pathway Chat. Because both products are made from natural quarry materials, their exact colors and the amount of secondary coloring can vary between loads.

A Natural Alternative to Concrete or Pavers

Pathway chat creates a compacted natural surface with a softer appearance than concrete or pavers. It can be graded, refreshed or recompacted when necessary, making it a practical option for many residential landscape projects.

Because pathway chat remains an unbound natural material, it will not become completely rigid like concrete or asphalt. Periodic maintenance may be needed in areas exposed to concentrated drainage, snow removal or heavy traffic.

Installation Recommendations

For adequate coverage and compaction, install Platinum Rose Pathway Chat at least 3″ deep. Lightly moisten the material and mechanically compact it to help the smaller particles settle and bind together.

The loose material will lose some depth during compaction. As a general guideline, approximately 2″ of loose pathway chat may compact to about 1.5″. Account for this reduction when calculating the amount required for the desired finished depth.

Proper excavation, grading and edge containment help create an even and durable surface. A compacted road base may also be recommended beneath the pathway chat when additional structural support is needed for the intended use or existing soil conditions.

Platinum Rose Pathway Chat is intended primarily for pedestrian areas. It is not recommended as a finished parking surface by itself. Parking areas generally require an appropriately prepared and compacted structural base.

Why the Material May Look Powdery

Platinum Rose Pathway Chat may appear dusty or powdery when it is first delivered. This is normal for a minus product. The fine crushed material is an important part of the blend and allows it to compact. After the material is placed, lightly moistened and compacted, the fines settle and more of the larger gray and purple-gray particles become visible at the surface.

Pickup, Delivery and Installation

Bulk Platinum Rose Pathway Chat is available from the Rock N Yard Landscape Center for pickup or delivery throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Delivery material must be placed on a suitable concrete or asphalt surface accessible to our trucks.
