Rock N Yard offers bulk Recycled Road Base for pickup and delivery throughout the Salt Lake Valley. This is a practical, commercial-grade base material rather than a decorative landscape gravel.

What size road base do you sell?

Our road base is generally 1.5″ minus. That means it contains larger aggregate along with smaller particles and fines that help the material pack together when compacted. We do not carry 3/4″ minus road base. Because we source from different locations, the exact mix and particle sizes may vary by load. If your plans require a particular tested gradation or other engineered specification, please verify the requirements with us before ordering.

Where can recycled road base be used?

Customers commonly use road base as a compacted layer beneath pavers, patios, concrete, and asphalt. It can also serve as a base for other surfaces when the project design calls for it. Prepare the ground first, place the material in appropriate layers, and compact it to the finished depth your project requires. The right total depth depends on the soil, the surface above it, and the loads that area will carry.

Road base is generally better as a base beneath another surface than as the finished appearance of a walkway or landscape area. If left exposed, it may become muddy or sticky when wet.

Important ordering and delivery notes

Our trucks may pick up road base from different sources depending on their routes. As a result, color, exact particle sizes, and the overall mix can change. Photos show examples of the material, not a guaranteed color or size distribution. Moisture also affects its weight, so check your vehicle’s payload capacity if you plan to pick it up yourself. Allow for some loss of loose depth during compaction when calculating how much you need.

For delivery, our trucks stay on concrete or asphalt and material is dropped at an approved paved location; we do not drive trucks onto yards.
