Washed concrete sand is a coarse, screened construction sand used for concrete and mortar mixes, paver installation and other building projects. Washing removes much of the excess fine dust and clay while leaving the durable sand particles needed for these applications. Rock N Yard sells this bulk material by the cubic yard. Uses for Washed Concrete Sand

This versatile aggregate works for both residential and commercial projects. Common applications include:

• Bedding beneath interlocking concrete pavers and stepping stones
• Joint sand for tightly spaced interlocking pavers
• Bedding around pipes and utility lines

Washed Concrete Sand for Pavers

For paver installations, place the sand over a stable, properly prepared base. A compacted product such as Recycled Road Base supports the hardscape, while the concrete sand creates the final bedding layer used to level the pavers. Bedding thickness and base preparation can vary, so always follow the paver manufacturer’s installation specifications.

Washed concrete sand may also be swept into narrow joints between tightly fitted interlocking pavers. However, it remains a loose sand and does not harden like polymeric joint sand. Confirm that ordinary sand is suitable for your paver system, joint width and intended use.

Compaction and Material Planning

This sand generally loses about 25% of its loose depth as it settles and compacts. For example, 2 inches of loose material may finish near 1.5 inches. Include this reduction when estimating the amount needed for a bedding layer or another project that requires a specific finished depth.
