3/8″ Black Lava Rock

3/8″ Black Lava Rock is a small, clean volcanic landscape rock with deep charcoal and black coloring. Its porous surface and angular, irregular shape produce a distinctive natural texture that adds contrast and depth to garden beds, planters, borders and other decorative landscape areas.

This is the smallest of our three black lava rock sizes. Its finer, more consistent appearance works especially well in detailed areas where larger rock may look too coarse. The material has a scale similar to pea gravel, but it retains the rugged, porous texture of natural lava rock instead of the smooth, rounded surface associated with traditional pea gravel.

Clean 3/8-Inch Sizing

This product consists primarily of clean rock measuring approximately 3/8″. It is not classified as a minus product because it does not contain a significant mixture of progressively smaller rock. However, the material is not washed and may contain a small amount of natural dust or fines, as is common with bulk landscape rock.

For adequate coverage, we recommend installing this material at least 2″ deep over a properly prepared surface. Commercial-grade landscape fabric can be installed beneath the rock where additional separation and weed control are desired.

Choosing a Black Lava Rock Size

The 3/8″ size provides the finest and most uniform-looking surface of our black lava products. Choose our 3/4″ Black Lava Rock for a medium landscape texture or our 1.5″ Black Lava Rock for a larger, more rugged appearance. Because the 3/4″ and 1.5″ products are minus materials, they contain a broader range of smaller pieces than this clean 3/8″ rock.

Pickup, Delivery and Installation

Bulk 3/8″ Black Lava Rock is available from the Rock N Yard Landscape Center for pickup or delivery throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Delivery material is placed on a suitable concrete or asphalt surface accessible to our trucks.
