Premium Soil for Raised Beds and Gardens

Our Raised Bed Garden Soil is a premium, ready-to-use growing mix for raised garden boxes, vegetable gardens, flower beds and container gardens. Its lightweight, workable texture makes it an excellent alternative to the dense native clay soil commonly found throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

This 1/4-inch minus blend contains composted Douglas fir bark fines, sphagnum peat moss, reed sedge peat moss, compost, perlite and coco coir. These components create a lightweight growing medium with excellent moisture retention, drainage and structure. Rock N Yard tests this product regularly to confirm its neutral pH, making it a dependable growing mix for a wide variety of vegetables, flowers and other garden plants.

This soil is ready to plant in and does not require additional tilling or mixing when used as a standalone growing mix in a new raised bed, planter or garden box.

Is This the Right Soil for Your Project?

Raised Bed Garden Soil works best when filling a new raised bed, garden box, planter or planting area. If you only need to improve the soil in an established garden, adding compost or another soil amendment may be a more economical option.

This is a specially blended growing mix rather than native screened topsoil. It is particularly useful for raised beds and containers where lightweight soil, good drainage and moisture retention are important.

Recommended Depth and Settling

For new flower beds, we generally recommend approximately 8 inches of soil. Use at least 12 inches for deeper-rooted vegetables such as carrots, potatoes and onions.

Because this blend contains lightweight organic materials, it will settle after installation and watering. We recommend ordering approximately 25% more than the bed’s finished volume to account for settling.
