1 Cubic Yard Is Approximately 1.25 Tons
Copper Mountain Gravel is a fully fractured, angular landscape rock with a relatively consistent 1.5-inch size. Its rich mixture of gold, tan, cream, warm brown, rust and occasional charcoal tones creates a natural, earthy appearance. These colors complement plants, wood features, natural stone and many Utah landscapes.
The fractured faces help the individual stones interlock better than naturally rounded gravel. This makes Copper Mountain Gravel suitable for decorative landscapes, driveways and parking areas. However, it does not replace a properly prepared structural base where a project requires one.
Copper Mountain Gravel Color and Appearance
Copper Mountain Gravel combines warm gold and cream with darker brown, rust and charcoal accents. The balance of colors varies naturally between loads. Sunlight, moisture and surrounding landscape colors can also affect how the finished material appears.
This is an unwashed product, so crusher fines and dust may coat the rock when it arrives. The amount of fines can vary throughout a load, and some pockets may contain more than others. Rainfall or a light rinse will reveal more of the rock’s natural color.
Recommended Uses for Copper Mountain Gravel
- Decorative landscape and flower beds
- Park strips and water-wise landscapes
- Borders and accent areas
- Residential driveways and parking areas
- Equipment or trailer parking areas with proper preparation
- Decorative drainage areas that do not require clean washed drain rock
For driveways and parking areas, prepare a stable base before installing the gravel. Proper excavation, grading and base preparation will improve stability and long-term performance. Heavier trucks, trailers and equipment may require additional base depth based on the soil and expected use.
Recommended Installation Depth
Install this 1.5-inch gravel at approximately 3 inches deep. A useful general rule is to install decorative rock at about twice the depth of its average stone size. At a 3-inch depth, one cubic yard covers approximately 108 square feet.
For landscape areas, prepare the soil to the proper grade before installing the rock. Landscape fabric can help separate the gravel from the soil and reduce mixing. However, fabric will not prevent every weed, especially weeds that germinate in dust and organic material above it.
Walking and Compaction Considerations
The fractured shape provides more stability than rounded river rock, but this material will not form the same tightly compacted surface as road base or pathway chat. It can work in low-traffic landscape areas, but choose a smaller compacting material when the project requires a firm, smooth walking surface.

Rock N Yard may also source a 1-inch-minus version of Copper Mountain Gravel for delivery by special order. Availability, pricing and minimum quantities can change. Please contact us for current information. We do not currently list the 1-inch-minus size as a regularly stocked pickup product.
