1 Cubic Yard Is Approximately 1.25 Tons

Twilight 1.5-inch gravel is a fully fractured landscape rock with a medium-to-dark gray and blue-gray base. It also contains varying amounts of tan, brown, red, orange and pink stone. The proportions of these colors change naturally between quarry loads. Some loads have an even blend of gray and secondary colors, while others appear predominantly gray.

This material consists of relatively consistent 1.5-inch rock without a meaningful range of smaller stone sizes. Its angular, fractured shape gives landscapes a more structured appearance than naturally rounded river rock.

Twilight 1.5-Inch Gravel Characteristics

  • Relatively consistent 1.5-inch rock
  • Fully fractured with angular edges
  • Unwashed material with variable crusher fines
  • Medium-to-dark gray and blue-gray base color
  • Variable tan, brown, red, orange and pink accents
  • Well suited for decorative and functional landscape areas

The crusher fines may coat the rock and make a fresh delivery appear lighter or whiter than expected. The amount of surface dust also varies between loads. As the material settles and the dust washes away, more of the underlying rock colors may become visible.

Recommended Uses for Twilight 1.5-Inch Gravel

Twilight 1.5-inch gravel is especially popular for park strips. Rock in the 1.5-inch to 2-inch range is large enough to stay in place better than smaller gravel. However, it is still manageable for installation and landscape maintenance.

  • Park strips and waterwise landscapes
  • Flower beds and decorative landscape areas
  • Around shrubs, trees and other plantings
  • Side yards and areas along foundations
  • Drainage areas and dry landscape features
  • Residential driveways and parking areas

Driveways and parking areas require proper excavation, grading and a suitable compacted base. This decorative gravel should not replace the structural base needed for the project.

Because this is larger, angular rock, it is not our preferred option for pathways or regular walking areas. For a smoother walking surface, consider Twilight Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus. The Twilight Gravel – 3/4″ Minus can also create a coarser informal path.

Installing Twilight 1.5-Inch Gravel

Install this gravel at a minimum depth of 3 inches. This provides enough planned depth for approximately two layers of 1.5-inch rock. The overlapping layers provide better coverage and help prevent the ground or landscape fabric from remaining visible between individual pieces.

Actual coverage will depend on grading, compaction, surface conditions and the natural shape of the rock.

Other Twilight Rock Sizes

The Twilight color family is also available as Twilight Gravel – 1/2″, Twilight Gravel – 3/4″ Minus, Twilight Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus and Twilight Cobble – 2″ to 4″.

These products share the same general color family. However, the amount of gray and each secondary color may differ between sizes and quarry loads. We recommend viewing the current material when an exact blend is important.
