1 Cubic Yard Is Approximately 1.3 Tons
Polar Dusk River Cobble is a naturally rounded decorative stone ranging from approximately 2 to 8 inches. It combines light and dark gray, blue-gray, muted purple, tan and brown tones. The varied colors and larger sizes give ponds, dry creek beds and landscape accents a natural riverbed appearance.
This large river cobble works especially well with brightly colored plants, ornamental grasses, boulders and water features. Its rounded shape provides a softer appearance than angular or fractured landscape rock.
Uses for Polar Dusk River Cobble
Polar Dusk River Cobble can add natural color, texture and visual interest to many landscape designs. Common applications include:
- Dry creek beds and decorative drainage channels
- Decorative drainage swales where an attractive rock is preferred
- Ponds, waterfalls and other water features
- Large landscape and flower bed accents
- Borders and transitions around landscape boulders
- Zen gardens and natural landscape designs
- Decorative erosion-control areas
This 2–8-inch river cobble is not recommended for pathways, walkways or areas that receive regular foot traffic. Its large, rounded stones create an uneven walking surface and can be difficult to cross safely.
Recommended Depth for Polar Dusk River Cobble
Install Polar Dusk River Cobble at least 6 inches deep for adequate coverage. Although the material contains stones up to approximately 8 inches, the smaller stones within the mixture help fill spaces between the larger cobbles.
At a 6-inch depth, one cubic yard covers approximately 54 square feet. Actual coverage can vary depending on the mixture of stone sizes, the grade of the area and how the stones settle. Plan for additional material when covering slopes, creating deeper drainage features or placing individual stones by hand.
Natural Color, Size and Riverbed Fines
Polar Dusk River Cobble is a natural, unwashed product. It may contain riverbed fines or pockets of smaller material. We try to avoid concentrated pockets while loading, but some fines are unavoidable.
Natural stone can vary in color, size and shape between loads. We recommend viewing the product at our landscape center before ordering, especially when matching existing material. The colors also become darker and more pronounced when wet, making this cobble an attractive option for ponds and water features.
Other Names for Polar Dusk River Cobble
Similar stone may be marketed by other companies as Modern River Cobble, Canadian Blend, Glacier Cobble, Arctic Cobble or large river pebbles. Product names and size classifications can vary between suppliers.
Other Polar Dusk River Rock Sizes
For smaller applications, compare our Polar Dusk River Pebbles – 1/2″-1″ and Polar Dusk River Rock – 1″-3″. Each size carries the same general Polar Dusk color range but creates a different finished texture and scale.
