1 Cubic Yard Is Approximately 1.2 Tons

Crimson Ash cobble is a large 4–8-inch landscape rock with a varied mixture of light and dark gray, tan and red tones. It combines naturally rounded cobble with fractured and angular pieces. This creates a rugged appearance that works especially well in larger landscape features.

Because Crimson Ash is a natural material, the color mixture and shape will vary between loads. Some loads may contain more gray stone, while others may show more tan or red. We recommend viewing the current material before ordering if a particular color balance is important to your project.

Recommended Uses for Crimson Ash Cobble

The larger size makes this cobble best for areas where a bold landscape rock is needed. It also coordinates with the smaller gravel sizes in the Crimson Ash family.

  • Dry creek beds and decorative drainage channels
  • Erosion-control areas
  • Landscape borders and transition areas
  • Large decorative rock features
  • Accents around boulders, trees and planting areas
  • Transitions between landscaped areas and smaller gravel

This 4–8-inch cobble is not intended for comfortable walking surfaces. Use it where the larger stone can remain in place without interfering with regular foot traffic.

Recommended Installation Depth

Install Crimson Ash cobble at a minimum depth of approximately 8 inches. This allows the mixture of 4–8-inch stones to settle into a natural-looking layer with adequate coverage.

At an 8-inch depth, one cubic yard covers approximately 40 square feet. Coverage will vary because of the irregular sizes, shapes and spaces between individual stones. Measure the project area carefully and allow additional material for settling, transitions and uneven ground.

Unwashed Rock and Crusher Fines

Crimson Ash cobble is an unwashed natural rock. It may contain red crusher fines that look like dirt or temporarily change the appearance of the material. The amount of fines can vary between loads.

After installation, use a blower to remove loose fines before rinsing the rock. Allow the cobble to dry completely before judging its finished color. Wet stone will appear darker and more vibrant than dry stone.

Other Crimson Ash Sizes

For smaller landscape areas, park strips or parking surfaces, consider our Crimson Ash Gravel – 1″ or Crimson Ash Gravel – 2″ Minus. All three sizes share the same general mixture of gray, tan and red tones.
