1 Cubic Yard Is Approximately 1.3 Tons
Polar Dusk river pebbles are naturally rounded 1/2–1-inch stones with a varied mixture of light and dark gray, blue-gray, muted purple, tan and brown tones. Their smooth shape and smaller size create a polished appearance in landscape beds, ponds, water features and detailed accent areas.
This material is not washed. Although it generally arrives relatively clean, it may contain occasional pockets of natural riverbed fines. The amount of fines can vary between loads.
Uses for Polar Dusk River Pebbles
The smaller size works especially well in areas where larger river rock would feel too heavy or overpower the surrounding plants and landscape features.
- Landscape and flower beds
- Ponds and water features
- Dry creek beds and decorative drainage features
- Zen gardens and peaceful accent areas
- Decorative borders around plants and boulders
- Small pathways and garden walking areas
Some customers choose Polar Dusk river pebbles for pathways because the small, smooth stones are comfortable to walk across. However, rounded rock does not lock together like fractured gravel or pathway chat. It may shift underfoot and require occasional raking to keep the surface even.
Recommended Depth for Polar Dusk River Pebbles
Install these river pebbles at least 2 inches deep for adequate coverage. A depth of approximately 3 inches is recommended when possible for better long-term coverage and easier maintenance.
- At 2 inches deep, one cubic yard covers approximately 162 square feet.
- At 3 inches deep, one cubic yard covers approximately 108 square feet.
These figures are planning estimates. Allow additional material for uneven ground, settling and transitions between landscape areas.
Natural Color and Fines in Polar Dusk River Pebbles
Polar Dusk is a natural river rock, so its color, sizing and overall mixture can vary between loads. Some loads may show more gray and blue, while others may contain more brown, tan or purple stone.
The colors become darker and more vibrant when wet, making this material especially attractive in ponds and water features. We recommend viewing the current material at our Landscape Center if a particular color balance is important to your project.
Other Names for Polar Dusk River Rock
Similar rounded river rock may be marketed by other suppliers as Modern River Cobble, Canadian Blend, Glacier Cobble, Arctic Cobble or decorative pebbles. Exact color mixtures, sizing and sourcing can vary between suppliers, so we recommend comparing the actual material rather than relying only on the product name.
