1 Cubic Yard Is Approximately 1.2 Tons

Canyonlands River Cobble is a naturally rounded landscape stone with warm colors inspired by southern Utah. This larger 2-inch to 5-inch size blends tan, cream, light brown, orange, rust, muted pink and occasional gray. The mixture creates a natural look that works especially well in dry creek beds, drainage areas and larger landscape features.

Natural processing rounds these stones rather than mechanical crushing. However, some individual pieces may have broken or angular edges from processing and handling. The range also includes smaller stones that help fill spaces between the larger cobble.

Canyonlands River Cobble Color and Appearance

Rock N Yard supplies this material unwashed. At delivery, orange and red crusher fines may coat the surface of the stones. This coating can temporarily give the material a flatter salmon or orange appearance.

Over time, rainfall or a light rinse will remove much of the surface coating and reveal the full mixture of colors. Because this is a natural product, the exact balance of sizes, shapes and colors can vary between loads. Some pockets may also contain more fines than others.

Recommended Uses for Canyonlands River Cobble

  • Dry creek beds and decorative drainage channels
  • Drainage swales where a natural decorative stone is desired
  • Large landscape and flower beds
  • Park strips where a larger stone is preferred
  • Borders and accent areas
  • Layered designs using multiple Canyonlands sizes

The 2-inch to 5-inch size provides a more substantial appearance than standard landscape gravel. It also works well for filling larger spaces where smaller rock could look too uniform or become easily displaced.

Canyonlands River Cobble Installation Depth

Install Canyonlands River Cobble at approximately 5 inches deep for consistent coverage. The smaller stones included in the size range help fill spaces between the larger pieces. At a 5-inch depth, one cubic yard covers approximately 65 square feet.

Prepare the area to the proper grade before installing the cobble. Landscape fabric may help separate the rock from the soil and reduce mixing. However, fabric does not eliminate every weed, especially weeds that germinate in dust and organic material above it.

Not Recommended for Walkways

Canyonlands River Cobble does not create a comfortable or safe walking surface. The large, rounded stones remain loose and uneven underfoot. Do not use this material for pathways or areas that receive regular foot traffic.

Other Canyonlands Sizes

For park strips, smaller landscape beds or areas where a more compact size is preferred, see our Canyonlands River Rock – 3/4″-2″. Both sizes share the same warm color family and work well together in layered dry creek beds and drainage features.
