Rustic Ridge Cobble – 2–8″ is a large decorative rock with a natural blend of deep red, dark gray, tan and light gray tones. Its broad size range creates a rugged appearance that works especially well in flower beds, dry creek beds and larger landscape areas.

This material is not manufactured as a uniformly rounded river rock or a fully fractured gravel. Most pieces are naturally rounded, while others may be broken or angular. The mixture of shapes and sizes gives Rustic Ridge Cobble a natural, varied appearance.

Rustic Ridge Cobble Color and Shape

Rustic Ridge shares some of the neutral tan and light gray coloring found in Western Hills Cobble – 2–3″. However, Rustic Ridge also includes darker gray and deeper red pieces. These stronger colors give it a bolder and more varied finished look.

The proportions of each color can change between loads. Likewise, individual pieces may vary in size, shape and surface texture. Natural stone also appears darker and more colorful when wet. Current photographs accurately represent the general material, but they cannot guarantee the exact appearance of a future load.

Recommended Uses for Rustic Ridge Cobble

The large 2–8-inch size works well for projects where a substantial decorative rock is desired. Common applications include:

• Flower beds and large landscape planting areas
• Dry creek beds and decorative drainage swales
• Erosion and runoff areas where large decorative rock is appropriate
• Large accent sections around homes or commercial properties
• Landscape areas paired with plants, trees or boulders
• Park strips designed specifically for an oversized cobble

Rustic Ridge Cobble is too large for pathways or areas that need a comfortable walking surface. It can also make crossing a park strip difficult. Therefore, use it in a park strip only when regular pedestrian access across the rock is not needed.

Unwashed Rock and Variable Fines

This is an unwashed quarry product. As a result, newly delivered material may have crusher fines, dust or soil coating the rock. The amount of fine material can vary from one load to another.

A fresh delivery may look duller, dustier or more uniformly colored than the clean rock underneath. Rain, irrigation or rinsing will gradually expose more of the deep red, gray, tan and light gray colors. Even after the fines are removed, natural color variation should be expected.

Recommended Installation Depth

Plan for approximately 6–7 inches of Rustic Ridge Cobble for dependable coverage. Although the material includes some smaller rock, the largest pieces may measure close to 8 inches. A deeper installation helps provide enough material to cover the area and arrange the larger pieces naturally.

Prepare the area evenly before installation. Because individual cobbles are large and heavy, placement may require more handwork than installing smaller gravel. The rock may also settle slightly as smaller pieces move into the spaces between larger cobbles.

Delivery and Installation
