Driftwood Gravel – 3/4″ Minus
1 cubic yard weighs approximately 1.25 tons.
Driftwood Gravel – 3/4″ Minus is a natural-looking landscape rock with a blend of rounded and fractured pieces. The material ranges from approximately 3/4-inch rock down to pea gravel-sized pieces. Its mixed sizing helps it settle together, although the rounded pieces prevent it from compacting as firmly as fully fractured gravel or pathway chat.
The primarily light and medium gray color creates a neutral background around plants, flowers and other landscape features. Dark gray, pink and red stones add subtle variation throughout the material.
Color and Natural Variation
Driftwood Gravel is a natural product, so its color, shape and proportions will vary between loads. One load may contain more light gray rock, while another may show more dark gray, pink or red pieces.
This is an unwashed rock. Dirt and fines may coat the material when it is first delivered and temporarily affect its appearance. Rain, irrigation or rinsing will help reveal the finished colors. Review the product photos as a general representation rather than an exact color guarantee.
Best Uses for Driftwood Gravel
The neutral color and manageable size make this gravel useful in many residential landscape areas, including:
- Landscape and flower beds
- Park strips and water-wise landscapes
- Areas surrounding trees and shrubs
- Spaces around flagstone and stepping stones
- Decorative borders and transition areas
- Informal garden paths and low-traffic walkways
Using It for Informal Pathways
Driftwood Gravel can create a softer, natural-looking surface for informal pathways. However, the rounded pieces may move or shift underfoot. This material will not compact into the firm, stable surface provided by a traditional pathway chat.
For a smoother and more compactible walking surface, compare our other pathway materials. If you need fully fractured gravel for a parking or driving surface, consider Desperado Trail Gravel – 3/4″ Minus.
Do not use Driftwood Gravel for driveways, RV pads, equipment pads or vehicle parking surfaces. The rounded rock prevents it from locking together firmly enough for those applications.
Recommended Installation Depth
Install Driftwood Gravel at a minimum depth of 2 inches. We recommend planning for a 3-inch depth whenever possible. The additional material provides better long-term coverage and makes it easier to maintain an even appearance as the gravel settles or shifts.
Actual coverage can vary because of the mixture of rock sizes and the condition of the installation area.
