Dry Creek Gravel – 3/4″ Minus
Dry Creek Gravel – 3/4″ Minus weighs approximately 1.2 tons per cubic yard.
This fully fractured landscape gravel usually contains rock from approximately 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch. It may also include some smaller material and crusher fines. Its angular shape helps the pieces settle together more firmly than naturally rounded gravel.
This versatile size works well in landscape beds, flower beds, park strips, informal pathways, driveways and parking areas. It provides a medium-sized decorative texture that is noticeable without overwhelming nearby plants or landscape features.
Salt-and-Pepper Color and Natural Variation
Dry Creek Gravel blends dark and light gray rock with tan pieces mixed throughout. Depending on the load, the contrasting light and dark colors can create a salt-and-pepper appearance.
The ratio of light, dark and tan rock changes naturally between loads. For example, one load may appear darker, while another may contain more light gray or tan material.
This is an unwashed gravel. Crusher dust and fines may coat the rock when it is delivered. The amount of fines can vary, and some loads may contain concentrated pockets that are not visible during loading. Rain, irrigation or rinsing will help reveal the finished colors.
Best Uses for Dry Creek Gravel
- Landscape and flower beds
- Water-wise and low-maintenance landscapes
- Park strips where a smaller gravel is desired
- Areas surrounding trees and shrubs
- Decorative borders and transition areas
- Informal garden paths
- Residential driveways and parking areas
Although this gravel works in park strips, many customers prefer the larger 1.5-inch or 2–3-inch Dry Creek sizes for that application. The larger options create a bolder appearance and tend to move less in exposed areas.
Informal Pathways and Compaction
The fully fractured pieces allow this gravel to settle together better than rounded rock, making it suitable for coarse informal pathways. However, it does not create the same smooth, tightly compacted surface as pathway chat.
For a finer walking surface, consider Dry Creek Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus. Pathway chat contains more small material and fines, allowing it to compact into a firmer and more uniform surface.
Dry Creek Gravel can also work as an exposed surface for residential driveways and parking areas. Proper excavation, preparation and compaction remain important for vehicle applications.
Recommended Installation Depth
Install Dry Creek Gravel at a minimum depth of 2 inches. We recommend planning for a 3-inch depth whenever possible. The additional material provides better long-term coverage and gives the fractured pieces enough depth to settle together.
Actual coverage may vary because of site conditions, compaction and the amount of smaller material in a particular load.
