Dry Creek Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus

Dry Creek Pathway Chat is a finely crushed material for natural-looking pathways, patios and outdoor gathering areas. Its current blend contains dark gray, light gray and tan rock. Together, these colors create a neutral look that suits many landscapes.

This 3/8″ minus material contains crushed rock measuring approximately 3/8″ and smaller. The mix includes fine particles that help it compact. With proper placement, light moisture and mechanical compaction, it forms a firmer walking surface than clean, loose gravel.

Product update: We previously classified Dry Creek Pathway Chat as a darker 1/2″ minus material. Changes to the quarry location and screening process have produced a finer product, now closer to 3/8″ minus. The current blend also has more light gray and tan rock, so it looks lighter than previous loads.

A Natural Alternative to Concrete or Pavers

Pathway chat creates a compacted surface with a softer appearance than concrete or pavers. Dry Creek’s gray and tan blend works in both modern and natural landscapes. It also provides a practical surface for pedestrian areas.

Pathway chat remains an unbound natural material, so it will not become rigid like concrete or asphalt. You can grade, refresh or recompact it when needed. Areas with concentrated drainage, snow removal or heavy traffic may need periodic maintenance.

Installation Recommendations

For adequate coverage, place Dry Creek Pathway Chat approximately 3″ to 4″ deep. Then lightly moisten and mechanically compact it. The smaller particles will settle and help bind the surface together.

Compaction reduces the depth of the loose material. As a general guideline, 2″ of loose material may compact to about 1.5″. Allow for that reduction when calculating your order.

Excavation, grading and edge containment help create an even surface. Depending on the soil and intended use, the project may also need compacted road base beneath the chat.

Why the Material May Look Powdery

Dry Creek Pathway Chat may look dusty when it arrives. That is normal for a minus product. The fine crushed particles help the material compact. Once you place, lightly moisten and compact the chat, more of the larger gray and tan pieces become visible.
