Fine Composted Bark for Soil and Garden Beds

Soil Pep is a fine, 3/8-inch minus soil conditioner made from screened and composted fir and pine bark. You can mix it into existing soil to add organic material and improve soil structure. It also works well as a natural-looking mulch or top dressing in garden and flower beds.

Its fine texture gives Soil Pep a clean, finished appearance and allows it to break down more quickly than larger bark mulch. As it breaks down, it continues adding organic material to the soil beneath it.

Use Soil Pep as a Soil Conditioner

To improve existing soil, spread approximately 1–2 inches of Soil Pep across the planting area. Mix it into the upper layer of soil before planting.

Soil Pep adds composted bark and organic material, but it does not serve as a complete, ready-to-plant soil on its own. Mix it with existing soil or combine it with other ingredients when creating a custom planting mix.

Use Soil Pep as a Natural Top Dressing

Apply approximately 2–3 inches when using Soil Pep as a natural mulch or top dressing. Its fine, dark texture creates a clean appearance around flowers, shrubs and other plants.

A layer of Soil Pep can help slow moisture loss, protect roots from temperature changes and reduce weed growth. Because the bark has a fine texture, it will break down faster than larger or coarser bark mulch and may require more frequent refreshing.
