Dry Creek Gravel – 1.5″
Dry Creek Gravel – 1.5″ weighs approximately 1.25 tons per cubic yard.
This fully fractured landscape gravel generally ranges from approximately 1 inch to 1.5 inches. It does not contain a meaningful range of smaller rock, so we do not classify it as a minus product. Its angular shape helps the pieces settle together and move less than naturally rounded rock.
The larger size provides a bold decorative texture without becoming difficult to install or maintain. It is especially popular for park strips, flower beds and other areas where customers want a substantial landscape rock.
Salt-and-Pepper Landscape Rock Color and Variation
Dry Creek Gravel combines dark and light gray rock with tan pieces mixed throughout. The contrast can create a salt-and-pepper appearance that works well with many home colors, plants and landscape designs.
The ratio of light, dark and tan rock changes naturally between loads. For example, one load may appear darker, while another may contain more light gray or tan pieces. The product photos show the normal color range, but they cannot guarantee the exact proportions in a future load.
This is an unwashed rock. Crusher dust and fines may coat the material when it is first delivered. The amount of fines can vary, and some loads may contain concentrated pockets that are not visible during loading. Rain, irrigation or rinsing will help reveal the finished colors.
Best Uses for 1.5 Inch Dry Creek Gravel
- Park strips and water-wise landscaping
- Flower and landscape beds
- Areas surrounding trees and shrubs
- Decorative borders and transition areas
- Residential driveways and parking areas
- Large areas where a bolder rock texture is desired
The 1.5-inch size is particularly well suited to park strips. It is large enough to create good visual coverage and resist shifting, but it is still manageable around plants, irrigation and landscape features.
Walking Areas and Pathways
Dry Creek Gravel – 1.5″ can be walked across when needed. However, the larger pieces are not as comfortable for regular foot traffic as the smaller Dry Creek options.
For an informal path with a smaller gravel texture, consider Dry Creek Gravel – 3/4″ Minus. For a smoother surface that compacts more firmly, use Dry Creek Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus.
Recommended Installation Depth
Install this gravel at a minimum depth of 3 inches. This provides room for approximately two layers of the larger pieces, helping create consistent coverage across the area.
Actual coverage may vary because of site conditions, settlement and natural changes in the rock. Plan carefully around edging, concrete and other finished surfaces so the installed gravel remains at the desired height.
Other Dry Creek Sizes
The Dry Creek family includes several sizes for different landscape applications:
- Dry Creek Gravel – 3/8″
- Dry Creek Gravel – 3/4″ Minus
- Dry Creek Gravel – 2-3″
- Dry Creek Cobble – 2-5″
- Dry Creek Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus
