Dry Creek Gravel – 2-3″
Dry Creek Gravel – 2-3″ weighs approximately 1.25 tons per cubic yard.
This large landscape gravel stays consistently within an approximate 2–3-inch range without a meaningful amount of smaller rock. Most pieces have a crushed, angular shape, although the material also contains some naturally rounded stones. This combination gives the finished landscape a rugged and natural appearance.
The larger size creates a bold texture in park strips, flower beds and other decorative areas. It also works well where customers want a more substantial rock that is less likely to move around than smaller gravel.
Salt-and-Pepper Landscape Rock Color and Variation
Dry Creek Gravel combines dark and light gray rock with tan pieces mixed throughout. The contrasting tones often create a salt-and-pepper appearance that complements many home colors, plants and landscape styles.
The ratio of light, dark and tan rock changes naturally between loads. For example, one load may appear darker, while another may contain more light gray or tan pieces. The product photos show the normal color range, but they cannot guarantee the exact proportions in a future load.
This is an unwashed rock. Crusher dust and fines may coat the material when it is first delivered. The amount of fines can vary, and some loads may contain concentrated pockets that are not visible during loading. Rain, irrigation or rinsing will help reveal the finished colors.
Best Uses for Two to Three Inch Dry Creek Gravel
- Park strips and water-wise landscapes
- Flower and landscape beds
- Large borders and accent areas
- Areas surrounding trees and shrubs
- Dry creek beds and decorative drainage swales
- Residential driveways and parking areas
- Large spaces where a bold rock texture is desired
The 2–3-inch size is one of the more popular choices for park strips. It is large enough to resist shifting in exposed areas while remaining manageable around plants and landscape features.
This rock can also be used for driveways and parking areas where a larger surface rock is desired. However, because it contains some naturally rounded pieces, it may not lock together as tightly as a completely fractured gravel. Proper preparation and installation remain important for vehicle areas.
The large pieces are not comfortable for pathways or regular walking surfaces. Customers who expect frequent foot traffic should consider Dry Creek Gravel – 3/4″ Minus or Dry Creek Pathway Chat – 3/8″ Minus.
Recommended Installation Depth
Plan for a minimum installation depth of 5 inches. This allows the smaller pieces in the 2–3-inch range to fill spaces between the larger rocks while still providing consistent coverage across the area.
Actual coverage may vary because of site conditions, settlement and natural variation in the material. Plan carefully around concrete, edging and other finished surfaces so the installed gravel remains at the desired height.
