RV pad gravel – 1″ minus is a fully fractured, unwashed gravel designed for exposed driving and parking surfaces. It contains angular rock measuring up to approximately 1 inch, along with smaller rock and variable crusher fines. Therefore, these materials settle together and compact into a firm surface for residential parking areas.
This product is similar to our Construction Gravel. However, it contains slightly larger rock, fewer small pieces and fewer fines. That difference makes RV pad gravel better suited to remaining exposed as the finished parking surface. It is a practical, cost-effective material rather than a decorative gravel selected for a specific color.
Recommended Uses for RV Pad Gravel
This 1-inch-minus gravel works well anywhere a stable gravel driving or parking surface is needed. For example, common applications include:
- RV parking pads
- Boat and utility-trailer parking
- Passenger vehicle parking areas
- Equipment parking and storage areas
- Gravel driveway or parking-area extensions
- Utility areas where exposed soil creates mud
RV pad gravel is intended to remain exposed as the finished surface. In comparison, base-only Construction Gravel must be covered by concrete, asphalt, pavers or another finished material.
Preparation, Depth and Compaction
For many residential parking-pad projects, plan for a layer approximately 3–4 inches deep. However, the required depth can change based on the native soil, drainage, vehicle weight and expected traffic. Soft or unstable ground may require additional excavation and a separate compacted base before placing the RV pad gravel.
First, grade the area so water drains away from buildings and does not collect beneath parked vehicles. Next, place the gravel evenly and compact it thoroughly to create a firmer driving surface. Finally, allow for settlement and compaction when calculating the loose quantity needed.
Fines and Color Variation
This is an unwashed product, so the amount of crusher fines can vary between loads. As a result, those fines may look like dirt and can give newly delivered gravel a reddish or dusty appearance. Over time, weather and normal use will expose more of the underlying rock.
The gravel comes from variable construction-grade sources. Therefore, its exact color and the proportions of individual colors are not guaranteed. Current photographs provide a close example of the material. Still, customers should choose this product for its size, compaction and parking-pad performance rather than its appearance.
