Supreme Walk-On Bark is an all-natural fir and pine bark mulch with a fibrous, shredded texture. Pieces generally range from approximately 2–5 inches, although natural variation should be expected.

Unlike chunk bark nuggets, the shredded fibers overlap and mat together. This helps the material resist movement and stay in place more effectively in high-traffic areas, windy locations and sloped landscapes.

Why the Fibrous Texture Matters

The interlocking fibers help Supreme Walk-On Bark hold together better than loose chunk bark. It can form a softer, more stable surface for informal pathways while still providing the benefits of natural bark mulch.

It will not create a hard or permanently compacted surface like pathway chat, concrete or pavers. However, moisture and foot traffic help the fibers settle and mat together over time.

Using Walk-On Bark for Informal Pathways

Supreme Walk-On Bark creates a natural-looking pathway surface that feels softer underfoot than gravel. Its fibrous texture makes it especially useful around garden boxes and other areas where a formal hardscape path is not necessary.

Because this is a natural wood product, it will gradually decompose and settle. Periodic refreshing may be needed to maintain the desired depth and appearance.

Benefits in Landscape Beds

When installed at the proper depth, this bark can help reduce weed growth, retain soil moisture and moderate soil temperature. Its ability to mat together also helps it remain on slopes and in exposed areas where loose bark nuggets may move more easily.

Keep the mulch slightly away from tree trunks, plant crowns and building foundations rather than piling it directly against them.

Recommended Installation Depth

Install Supreme Walk-On Bark at least 3 inches deep. We recommend planning for approximately 4 inches when possible for better coverage, improved weed suppression and easier long-term maintenance.

One cubic yard covers approximately:

• 108 square feet at 3 inches deep
• 81 square feet at 4 inches deep

Actual coverage will vary as the fibrous material settles and mats together.

Walk-On Bark or Chunk Bark?

Choose Supreme Walk-On Bark when you want a shredded, fibrous mulch for informal paths, slopes, windy locations or areas where the material needs to hold together.

Choose Natural Chunk Bark – Small or Natural Chunk Bark – Medium when you prefer the appearance of individual bark nuggets. The best option often comes down to the look, texture and size you want for your landscape.
